Portrait of Anthony Stadler

I am a film and television editor with more than twenty five years of experience across drama, documentary, factual series and comedy. I began my career as a runner before moving into an assistant role at Channel East, eventually becoming an in house editor cutting VTs for the breakfast show, Health Matters and a range of other programmes. Those early years taught me the fundamentals of structure, pacing and clarity, and they shaped the way I approach storytelling today.

Editing has always been the centre of my work. I enjoy the collaborative process of working with directors and producers, bouncing ideas around and helping them find the strongest version of their story. I am drawn to shaping performance, refining rhythm and building a narrative that feels honest and emotionally grounded. My focus is always on clarity, tone and the small decisions that make a scene feel alive.

Alongside my editing career, I am also a filmmaker and have directed and produced independent projects through my company Whetstone Films Ltd. Having experience on both sides of the process gives me a broader understanding of the pressures and creative decisions that shape a production, and it helps me support teams in a practical, thoughtful way.

Earlier in my career I trained at Escape Studios to expand my technical skills and worked in visual effects on films including X Men The Last Stand, Sunshine and The Da Vinci Code, later supervising VFX on independent features such as In Your Dreams, In the Hands of the Gods and Hardly Bear to Look at You. Although I have not worked in VFX since 2012, the experience remains a useful part of my toolkit. It helps me anticipate what the VFX team will need, provide clean frames and references, and shape the cut in a way that keeps the work achievable and efficient.
