Boarders follows a group of British skateboarders as they navigate the road to Olympic qualification and the sudden global spotlight on their sport. The film moves between training sessions, personal lives and competition, capturing both the culture of skateboarding and the pressure that comes with turning a subculture into an Olympic discipline.
Structurally I helped build a narrative that follows the skaters’ emotional and professional progression toward the Games, their response to the disruption of Covid, with the wider history of skateboarding interwoven throughout. While editing we focused on making the audience emotionally connect with each skater.
